This Draft Rwanda standard gives technical aspects to be considered in the planning stages of wastewater control systems using septic tank systems and sets out the requirements for installation and operation of the systems. This draft standard covers the design, construction, testing and maintenance of septic tanks for the disposal of domestic wastewater including all waste, black water and grey water systems. It also recommends guidelines for the selection, design, construction and maintenance of systems for the on-site disposal of effluents from septic tanks. The systems recommended are soakage systems for the disposal of septic tank effluent below ground (soakage pits, seepage trenches, and seepage beds) for the disposal of septic tank effluents
