The fifth edition of this standard  prescribes the requirements and methods of test for skin care creams, lotions and gels for cosmetic use. In this  Edition, the limit for Hydroquinone has been set in order to distinguish between contamination  and deliberate addition of hydroquinone. Also, the Chemical requirements have been separated from the contaminants and microbiological limits. The standard also specifies  the packaging and labeling requirements
