The Standard specifies requirements for rolled steel bars, other than plain round bars, for use in the reinforcement of concrete. It does not cover steel for pre-stressing concrete.
Observations made in regard to banning of twisted bars:
The twisted bars are of low tensile strength than Thermatically Treated bars (TMT) commonly known as Ribbed bars or deformed bars
The twisted bars are more affected by rust than TMT Bars
The twisted bars have weaker bonds with cement than TMT Bars
KS 573 is withdrawn with effect from 30th March 2017
