This Draft standard specifies safety and performance requirements for items of domestic cookware for use on top of a stove, cooker or hob. It is applicable to all cookware regardless of material or method of manufacture. It is also applicable to cookware intended for use both "on top” and "in oven“.

Worth mentioning is that this draft standard is technically identical withEN 12983-1:2000/A1:2004 and EN 12983-2:2005 with modification clarified on Annex 2.
